AMAZON REDD+ PROJECT
The Amazon REDD Project preserves 86,270 hectares of native Amazon Rainforest around the Parauaú and Mapuá Rivers on Marajó Island (PA), Brazil. That’s an area 54% of Greater London. The project is crucial for the prevention of wasteful use of the Amazon rainforest, as the enormous area of dense vegetation is considered to be one of the main priorities by the Brazillian Ministry of Environment. Approximately 187 families of Ribeirinhos – traditional river people – residing in the project area seriously depends on the local natural resources. In addition to conserving the native Amazon Rainforest, the REDD project has introduced various initiatives in the local community in order to equip locals with the tools and knowledge necessary to preserve the rich biodiversity of the Amazon. On top of that, the project intends to perceive alternative sources of income for local communities.

Carbon funding has contributed to the construction of 2 tree nurseries, and more are planned. The aim is to reforest up to 2000 hectares with native species, including açaí and other species of commercial value, in order to restore native ecosystems and generate community income.
The REDD Project donates a monthly payment to the local school (Casa Familiar Rural high-school CFR) , in order to provide necessites for the students and teachers. Currently, the project undertakes a crowdfunding for three students from the local school to go to University.
With carbon funding support, small-scale farmers have begun to make better, more constant profits. Continued carbon revenues will allow expansion of the cooperative and Fairtrade certification.
This is the crowdfunding vídeo for three ex-students of the Casa Familiar Rural high-school (CFR) to go to university. The latter is located in Breves municipality on Marajó Island, in the Eastern Brazilian Amazon, in one of the 50 least developed municipalities in Brazil – that is, in the bottom 1%. Join Ecomapuá Ltd. and Amzn's Organics in this unprecedented impact investment opportunity, with the chance to have a real impact on the lives and education of these young small-scale farmers.
